It's no secret that the cumulative mental health of our country is declining. Depression, feelings of isolation, anxiety and more are on the rise and finding adequate solutions for many has proven to be anything but easy.
In my own personal journey, I have faced countless moments of feeling unworthy, hopeless and wondering how much worse things can get. With seemingly no light at the end of the tunnel, I struggled...but worst of all...I did it in silence, as I didn't want people to perceive me as weak, needy, dependent or burdening. The fear of external judgment was enough to keep my thoughts and emotions hidden from view. So, that's exactly what I did. I suppressed every last emotion and feeling that I felt wouldn't be received well by others.
However, as many of us know, suppression of emotion isn't the answer for managing and eventually overcoming our insecurities in life. In order to move beyond our trauma and "let it go", we need to first ACKNOWLEDGE and then ACT upon it.
This is where the power of Communication comes in and it's why I am currently on a journey to impact the world. I am transparently sharing my struggles, both past and present, in hopes of destimatizing the often unspoken conversations surrounding mental health. My belief and understanding is that sharing my story will allow others to feel more comfortable with sharing their own.
My personal goal is to impact as many individuals as I can, so that they can begin to see their life through a more inspired and hopeful lens. For it is through that lens that the positive change they seek to create will occur. And often, it all starts with one conversation...
